Skins Riesling 2021

Winemaker notes:
The 2021 Skins Riesling is a real vibe for sure, it’s about 25 year old Riesling on decomposing granitic soil in Eden Valley. This helps with the natural retention of acidity and overall vibrancy of the wine. It’s picked at optimum ripeness and 50% is fermented as whole berries along with the other 50% as whole bunch(stems and all).

This adds to the overall structure and complexity of the wine but also make it a bit broader, which the wine can handle due to the natural acidity. After three weeks on skins it is then pressed and aged in neutral French puncheons for 12 months before its bottle with no sulphur and no fining or filtration!

Winemaker David Geyer is challenging some of the traditions of the Barossa Valley, giving a second life to some of the neglected sites across the region and playing with varieties that aren’t exactly mainstream but are all universally delicious. He makes wines as naturally as possible, always striving for drinkability and charisma in some of these unsung hero varieties of the region.
